Big Bob Gibson's BBQ BookFor those of us that collect barbecue books, the past week has been one for the record books. First we have Paul Kirk’s and Ardie Davis’ new publication, of which BBQ Addicts offered an exclusive sneak peek months ago, and now we’ve got Chis Lilly releasing Big Bob Gibson’s BBQ Book: Recipes and Secrets from a Legendary Barbecue Joint.  For those of you not familiar with Mr. Lilly, he’s the executive chef at the legendary Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q restaurants in Decatur, AL and one of the most decorated competition cooks to ever step foot on the circuit.  He’s won the World Championship BBQ Cook-Off 10 out of 11 years alongside 6 world titles at Memphis in May, and now he’s sharing the secret family recipes that made it all possible.

Chris starts off the book with a brief recap of how the Big Bob Gibson restaurants were born, and then quickly moves into the tips and tricks of mastering the art of low and slow cooking. He covers the basics of turning just about any style grill into an indirect cooker, so you can be sure to use his recipes on the equipment you already own.

From there he moves into a mouthwatering array of chicken, pork, and beef, followed by decadent side dishes and finally a sauce section kicked off by their iconic white sauce. And in case you’ve got a hankering for whole hog, he’s also included a chapter on everything you’ll need for a good old fashion pig pickin’.

Suggested retail value for the book is $24.99, but Amazon currently has it on sale for $15.92. The photos are worth that price alone, so don’t hesitate to add this one to your collection.

Nice overview of what is sure to be a “classic” cookbook for BBQ fans everywhere. I have my copy, and so far it’s a keeper!

Don’t forget that in this same period, even tho it’s not bbq, we also get yet another book called “Bacon: A Love Story: A Salty Survey of Everybody’s Favorite Meat” by Heather Lauer.

@HotSauceDaily – We jumped on board with Heather’s book back when we met up with her at the Blue Ribbon Bacon festival in Des Moines. She did a great job on the book, and it’s making me hungry just thinking about it!

@Bossman – It’s definitely worth picking up. Every page has full color glossy photos, and of course the recipes speak for themselves. An instant classic!!!

The suggested retail price of $24.95 purchased at the Big Bob website because it is an autographed copy of the book. The cheaper versions at Amazon, E-Bay, etc. are not autographed. I bought mine from the man’s website itself… Great book and recipes.
